Elegant Bordeaux Wine Dinner
at the Four Seasons Hotel

The Wine Association of the Duke of Bourbon is proud to present the "Premier Introduction of the 1993 Bordeaux Vintage" honoring Chateau Cos D'Estournel with proprietor Bruno Prats on Tuesday, September 19, 1995, at the world-famous Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. Our special guest, Bruno Prats, jointly controls, with his brothers, the family interests of Chateau Cos D'Estournel and Chateau de Marbuzet. He is a dynamic spokesman for the new generation of Bordelaise producers.

The wines presented will feature the 1993 Bordeaux of Chateau Cos D'Estournel, Chateau Lynch-Bages, Chateau Leoville-Barton, Chateau Pichon-Longueville-Baron and Chateau Cantenac-Brown... PLUS... some beautifully aged wines from the classic Bordeaux vintages of 1970, 1975, 1981, 1982 and 1983. A sumptuous menu has been designed by Four Seasons Executive Chef Carrie Nahabedian to complement the superlative wines.

Vita Nova

1989 Reservatum- $11.99 per bottle
Six-pack case- $60.00

What a wine, what a deal! The Vita Nova 1989 Reservatum ($15.00, sale $11.99) is an outstanding Central Coast wine produced by Jim Clendenen and Bob Lindquist at their joint wine-making facility of Au Bon Climat and Qupe. Since we have had continuous success with their Vita Nova Chardonnays, we asked Jim and Bob if we could run a special promotion on the 1989 Reservatum. This rich, full red wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for two years in French Oak and subsequently bottle-aged for four years.

Glenmorangie Twelve-Year-Old Port
Wood Finish Single Malt Scotch

Reg. $47.50- Duke's Special $39.99

While all Scotch whiskey is matured in oak casks, the flavor of the whiskey is greatly influenced by the character of the cask. For Glenmorangie, the best casks are those which have previously held American Bourbon. The bourbon seasons the wood, releases its natural sweetness and absorbs undesirable flavors. But it does not smother the subtle flavor of the whiskey.

Glenmorangie tried maturing their whiskey in casks which had formerly contained other wines or spirits, but they tended to dominate it's flavor. Then they tried transferring the whiskey to a different wood only for the last few years of maturation. This is called "finishing." It was a great success; the second wood enhanced and developed Glenmorangie's fine flavor without smothering it.

When the finishing was done in Port wood, the results were so exceptionally good they decided to bottle a small quantity, which we are very pleased to offer at the Duke of Bourbon.

Glenmorangie Twelve-Year-Old Port Wood Finish Malt Whiskey is the color of antique copper: golden, with a rosy hue. They suggest that, with a drop of water, the key aromas are of butterscotch and dark chocolate, but with fresh, minty notes and a trace of dryness. There is some sandalwood and citric fruit (oranges, perhaps tangerines), even a hint of allspice. With a little more water, lighter scents begin to emerge: grass and hay, hazelnuts and candied peel.

The mouth-feel is voluptuously smooth, like sipping velvet. The entire palate is engaged - a most interesting and complex balance of sweet and dry flavors. The bitter chocolate noted as an aroma is apparent, and the fresh mintiness. In the satisfying, lingering finish, hints of port and walnuts reveal themselves for the first time. Regularly priced at $47.50, we are selling it for only $39.99!
