The husband and wife team of Lawrence and Nieves Cortez used their experiences throughout the years of being in the wine industry to start Corté Riva Vineyards. Their Corte Riva 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon was produced by Head Winemaker Romel Rivera (long-time Pride Winery Assistant Winemaker) and Assistant Winemaker Lawrence Cortez (who also heads the cellar work). The name Corte Riva pays homage to the winemakers Cortez and Rivera. A dark ruby color, this Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 75% new. Robert Parker says: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits abundant scents of espresso roast, black cherries, cassis, and chocolate. More structured and backward than the Merlot, with a more linear, masculine mouthfeel, it will benefit from 1-2 years of bottle age, and should keep for 10-15 years ". The wine already has the proper bottle age to drink now. We tried it and we were blown away with the aromas, taste, tannins and drinkability. This is a fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon. Several months ago, we offered this wine at a tasting dinner and it sold for $87.50 per bottle.
