The greatest Shiraz country on earth is the Barossa Valley, South Australia. It lies north of the Antarctic Continent, and just south of one of the largest deserts in the world, the Great Australian Outback. This tough country is a place where a good dog keeps you company and protects you from snakes while walking the vineyard. Barossa Jack is one of our four tough, intelligent and utterly faithful Jack Russell Terriers that help us make our wine.

VINEYARD NOTES
Barossa Jack is crafted from our first vineyard in the Barossa Valley now named LABYRINTH. The property is just below the small English town of Angaston and was originally planted to Shiraz in the 1840's and gained a reputation as one of the best in the Barossa during the first half of the 20th century. The old vines were removed decades ago and the vineyard sat fallow for over 20 years. In 2004 the vineyard site was purchased by Hundred Acre. The soil was rejuvenated with hundreds of tons of organic compost and extensively ripped and prepared; old growth Jara wood posts were cut and brought from Western Victoria; and an extremely expensive high density vineyard was planted. The vineyard has now produced its third crop and with that we have made the Barossa Jack. Someday we hope to designate the LABYRINTH to a single vineyard wine for Hundred Acre, but for now she will represent our much loved Barossa Jack.

CLIMATE
South Australia is the driest state in the driest continent in the world. In the winter months, they measure the rainfall in millimeters, and are lucky to get as much as 75 mm in a season (3 inches). At any given time, the sky can turn red and the temperatures soar, and at night, the temperatures plunge. These unforgiving conditions can make for incredible fruit; concentrated, huge structure and massive intensity, or conversely, a sandstorm can blow in and wipe out the entire crop in a matter of days.

WINEMAKING
This wine is made by Jayson Woodbridge and the Hundred Acre winemaking team.

EXPERIENCE
The wine is not for the faint of heart. It is monolithic and extremely layered with a massive attack and a wave that passes through the mid palate and on to a long dak finish of chocolate, black fruit and spices. This wine is loaded with blackberry and plum, hints of pipe tobacco and intense black cherry and coffee. The big brother to Layer Cake this wine is basically like stuffing a giant German Black Forest Cake into a bottle and protectig it with a tenacious little dog. Hide this wine from your friends as there is very little and when it is gone...it's gone.
