The
Duke is always on the lookout for stand-out Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. We tasted
Silverado 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, Limited Reserve last week and were simply amazed. Absolutely sensational!! We couldn't wait for the wine to be delivered so we could offer it to you.
Silverado has made excellent wines since 1981, but only eleven vintages have merited the rare Limited Reserve label. Limited Reserves are produced only in the finest years, when small lots of wine are blended to express the essence of classic, ageworthy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine itself is a brilliant, dark purple with a nose that features ripe cherry, dried herbs, savory spices and cocoa. The palate is round and weighty, with stone fruit and sweet oak flavors well-framed by lively tannins and balanced acidity. Even though the wine has several years in bottle, the finish is mannerly and youthful.
Robert Parker has yet to review the 2002 Limited Reserve, but he had this to say about the 2001 as he awarded it a stellar 92 points: "The finest Cabernet Sauvignon I have tasted from Silverado, it boasts an opulent, full-bodied texture, loads of black currant, plum, beautiful length and tremendous purity." Wine Spectator has rated other vintages as high as 97 points on on their 100-point scale.
