Spain can lay claim to being one of the leading grape-growing regions in the entire world. In recent years, the quality of the wines being made is keeping pace with the amount of juice being produced. More and more top-flight wines are making their way to our shelves at a very high quality-to-price ratio. Jorge Ordonez, our favorite importer of Spanish wines, is among the leaders of the movement. Vinas del Cenit 2004 Cenit - Zamora
This is a modern style of Tempranillo made with very old vines from Zamora (in central Spain, near Madrid). It shows a deep and intense purple color. The nose displays great complexity and intensity with aromas of ripe fruit mixed with toasted and chocolate notes. On the palate, it has a terrific concentration, ripe flavors, well-integrated tannins and firm, crisp acidity. This wine is an ideal match for meat and game dishes.
RP 92!! His quote: "
The deep purple-colored 2004 Cenit offers more nuances, complexity, and aromatic intensity (graphite, blackberries, blueberries, and spice box) than the 2003 along with great elegance allied with fabulous richness and full body. It should drink well for a decade. Think of it as a more delineated, complex version of the 2003."

Campos Reales 2005 Tempranillo - La Mancha
Robert Parker reviewed this one and opined, "
The 2005 Campos Reales is an unoaked cuvee of 100% Tempranillo from yields of 2 tons of fruit per acre, remarkably low for a wine at this humble price point. Dark ruby-colored with a fruity nose of crushed violets and blackberry, this medium-bodied wine has gobs of juicy, crunchy fruit. It is nicely balanced and has a lengthy finish."

Bodegas Nekeas Vega Sindoa 2006 Rosado - Navarra
Want a cool, crisp, refreshing Rose to sip on the patio? This is the one! Even Parker likes it: "
Bodegas Nekeas continues to offer wines of exceptional value. The 2006 Vega Sindoa Rose is medium pink-colored with fragrant strawberry aromatics and flavors. Nicely fruity and succulent, this ripe wine should prove to be remarkably versatile with a wide range of food. It is a superb value."

Bodegas Zabrin 2005 Garnacha de Fuego, Old Vines - Calatayud
Here is another great quote from Parker: "
A remarkable value, the 2005 Garnacha de Fuego is fashioned from a 60- to 80-year-old hillside vineyard planted at a relatively high altitude above 3,000 feet. It is hard to believe a $7 wine could possess so much flavor. Sweet raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with loamy soil and spice aromas soar from the glass of this medium-bodied, richly fruity red that has never seen a hint of wood."

Bodegas Juan Gil 2005 Juan Gil Monastrell - Jumilla
The Monastrell grapes selected for this wine come from 40-year-old parcels in estate vineyards. Here shallow, chalky soils on a bed of limestone and rock, combined with an arid climate, produce the low yields (1.8 tons per acre) required for wine of this complexity. After harvesting, the deep purple grapes are whole-cluster macerated
sur lie for 25 days and then pressed and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The sum of the climate, soil, and vinification is a wine with rich color, abundant ripe fruit aromas, and a long, spicy, well balanced finish. Not yet rated by Parker, the three previous vintages received 90, 91 and 91 points.
