About a year ago, we were proud to introduce the initial vintage of Coup de Foudre, a joint project of John Schwartz (think Amuse Bouche and PharaohMoans) and Danielle Price, Director of Wine for Steve Wynn and Wynn Resorts. We were not surprised when our supply sold out quickly. We begged for more and sold that out, too, although it did take several milli-seconds. The Duke does not like to say, "No," but we were forced to when customers tried to get more.Well, we are now in a position to say, "Yes!!" Coup de Foudre 2005
is available, or nearly so. We are offering the new vintage on a pre-sell basis with delivery in September, 2007 (depending on weather).
Coup de Foudre strives to bring back the romance of wine. Remember that magical glass of wine you were having with that special someone when you were struck by the lightning bolt of love - that coup de foudre. The label, the words of a man pouring out his heart to his beloved, peels back to reveal fields (Who, Where, When and Why) ready for you to record your moment in time. The label is attached to a one-of-a-kind bottle custom-made in Italy, the country of romance.
The 2005 vintage was a winemaker's delight . . . perfect conditions, long hang-time and unbelievable balance! Once again, the Stag's Leap AVA Cabernet Sauvignon was picked at optimal brix levels, vinified and then barrel aged for 18 months in a combination of Taransaud and Radoux cooperage. They blended in 5% Syrah from Heidi Barrett's vineyard in the Santa Ynez appellation to further accentuate CdF's depth and spicy, fleshy flavors! Production remains very limited - a mere 500 cases for the planet.
Here are some quotes regarding the 2004 vintage to whet your palate for 2005:
Brett Anderson, Wine Editor for the Robb Report - "Coup de Foudre's remarkable range of textures and flavors work their effect gradually, like the courses of an elegant and ample meal. First, luscious, rich, dark berry, and chocolate caress the nose, then coat the palate in a silky soft blanket of chocolate and smoke, before the final course - a rich and unique finish of coffee and cream."
Steve Heimoff, Wine Editor of the Wine Enthusiast, gave Coup de Foudre 98 points and said, "This Wine is really a stunning Cab, soft and complex, rich in blackberry and chocolate fruit, and irresistibly delicious. Somehow they have made a wine that's powerful and opulent and impossibly rich, yet maintains an almost weightless elegance."
