Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
The Duke is always thrilled when one of our friends receives accolades, especially in the national media. This time it was our good friend Jim Clendenen and one of his Au Bon Climat wines that were featured in an article in the
New York Times. The article relates a tasting of Pinot Noir organized and subsequently written about by
Eric Asimov. It starts by referring to the movie
Sideways [ed. note: better late than never!] and leads into the selection and blind tasting of Central Coast Pinot Noirs. The tasters did agree that they much preferred "wines that were elegant and structured over those that were powerful, oaky or shapeless."
The Time's tasting panel rated Jim's Au Bon Climat 2005 Pinot Noir, La Bauge Au-dessus as the Best Value among the wines tasted. Their concensus was, 'Our best value was an old favorite, the 2005 Au Bon Climat La Bauge au Dessus from the Santa Maria Valley. This is a balanced wine, built on a more elegant scale than many California pinot noirs, with flavors of blackberry and spices." We couldn't agree more.
La Bauge normally retails at $30.00 - 33.00, but the
Duke's price is just $24.99 each. It is available in both 6-packs and 12-packs. While we expect this wine to sell out quickly, we have not placed a limit on orders at this time, although we reserve the right to do so.
Call the Duke today and order yourself some!!
