Duke of Bourbon: E-mail Specials

We tasted a selection of Drouhin 2005 Burgundies last evening at our Wine Association seminar and we simply could not wait to let you know how sensational the wines are. We started out with the Saint-Veran as an aperitif. It was stunning! And things only improved from there!! No one in attendance, including our guest speaker Mike Rodgers, who has worked for Drouhin and sold their wines for over 30 years, could remember a better Burgundy vintage. The whites were full, delicious and perfectly balanced. The reds were deep in color, rich in taste and are certain to age for many years. A true collector's vintage!! While we don't recommend that you rush out and cash in your 401k to purchase these wines, they are definitely worthy of a portion of your fine wine budget. Or at least worth a call to the Duke to hear of the experience first-hand.

If you were to ask a grape-grower in Burgundy to name the dream scenario for the production of healthy, ripe and concentrated fruit, the answer would be simply, "2005!" What a year! All was in harmony in the vineyards; that led to perfectly balanced wines and then to that explosion of flavor in the mouth. If there is one dominant characteristic of these glorious wines from Burgundy, it is their thrilling combination of ripeness and acidity. In short, they will be in great demand not only because they have great current appeal but also real potential for aging.

The Duke has a long tradition of offering futures of the wines of Maison Joseph Drouhin, which is located in Beaune, France. This year is no exception, as we will be holding our annual futures seminar for the superb 2005 Drouhin Burgundies on Wednesday, April 25. Details about this tasting event were sent out in the last few days. To tease your palate, we have assembled our futures list and present it to you now. Many of the wines listed here will be sampled that evening and all will be offered. Plan to attend our seminar but, if you can't, here is an opportunity to place your order early.

Why should you buy on "future?" The simple answer is that, in many cases, you simply will not be able to find the wines again. While the quality of the 2005 vintage is outstanding, the quantity was somewhat below the normal production levels. With a vintage this desirable, lovers of Burgundy should not delay in reserving their share.
