Legend has it that one morning Dan Duckhorn, thinking on Super-Tuscans (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and the indigenous Sangiovese), hit upon the idea of a Super-Napan. The concept of Paraduxx was born. A succulent blend of Zinfandel (considered to be the indigenous California varietal) and Cabernet Sauvignon (with a bit of Merlot, too), Paraduxx showcases the lush fruit that Napa Valley can produce with soft, elegant tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the palate. The 2004 Paraduxx is exactly that. The wine greets the nose with aromas of cherry, raspberry and rich fruit. Those notes carry forward on the palate with hints of toasty oak and the finish is long and satisfying. Word is, "this is the greatest Paraduxx ever." If that is true, then this is one-helluva wine. If you have ever tasted Paraduxx, you will know exactly what we are saying (and your mouth is probably watering right now).

One of the traditions of Paraduxx is the unique label, each featuring an artist's rendition of a "pair-a-ducks" native to the Pacific Flyway. This year's label (shown above) was inspired by Andrew Denman's acrylic painting of a pair of Wood Ducks.
