Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

Heidi Barrett, the preeminent winemaker at Screaming Eagle and La Sirena, had long had the vision of creating a Pomerol-style Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend from the best sources of Napa Valley fruit. That dream became a reality with the introduction of the 2002 vintage of Amuse Bouche. This magnificent blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is truly a wine to rival its famous counterparts from across the Atlantic, the giants of Pomerol, Petrus and Chateau Le Pin, not to mention setting an exceptionally high bar for its California challengers. Time magazine has called Heidi the "wine diva of Napa" and referred to her as "one of the world's top winemakers." She has several so-called "perfect" wines to her credit, having scored 100 points on Parker's 100-point scale. (The '92 and '93 Maya and the '92 and '97 Screaming Eagle immediately come to mind.)

We offered futures on the 750ml bottles of 2004 Amuse Bouche last September and they sold out almost immediately. (Mea culpa: In our eagerness to present this fabulous wine to our customers, we jumped the gun and offered magnums at that time and were asked to wait a bit on that part of the offer.) We are now able to officially offer futures on magnums of Amuse Bouche. The Duke's price on this extremely limited Napa Valley classic is $599.00 per bottle, no change from last year. Each magnum bottle comes in it's own elegant, custom wooden box.

The superb 2004 original artwork pictured above is by talented American artist Ira Yaeger and is the source for the label on each bottle of Amuse Bouche. Reflecting his fondness for a simpler way of life and the European sensibility of the 18th century, Ira has created a peasant marketplace wine vendor who celebrates joy and enthusiasm in his labor, as well as the anticipation of the harvest (think an earlier version of the Duke.) The Ergo Bibamus inscription, meaning "Therefore Drink," reminds us to thoroughly enjoy life and the marvelous senses of taste, sight and smell.

Don't miss out on this scarce Napa Valley cult wine!
