The Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year in wine. This year, the award goes to Joseph Phelps Vineyards 2002 Insignia, long one of the Duke's favorites. Congratulations to our good friends at Phelps on this singular achievement.In selecting Insignia for this award, the Spectator awarded it 96 points and had this to say: "A rich, polished, seductive style with layers of complexity built around a dense, concentrated mix of currant, blackberry, plum and exotic mocha- and cedar-scented oak. This mouthcoating young wine is powerful, yet elegant and deftly balanced, finishing with a long, succulent aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Best from 2008 through 2014 ." High praise, indeed!From painful experience, we have learned that when a wine earns an honor such as Wine of the Year, it has usually been sold-out for weeks. Not so this time!!! The Duke still has a supply of this legendary wine available for you. The Spectator indicates that the retail price of Insignia is $150.00 per bottle. Not so at the Duke!!!
