Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

We have two more sensational Spanish offerings for you. The first, Juan Gil 2002 Monastrell, hails from the Jumilla region in the south-eastern part of Spain. (You might better recognize Monastrell by its French name, Mourvedre.) Robert Parker loved this rich, delicious wine. He awarded it 91 points and enthused, "I have had three bottles of the stunning 2002 Juan Gil, and it has been a remarkable experience on all three occasions. I tasted it next to some top-notch Bordeaux selling for five times the price, and it was by no means outclassed. Made from 45-year old Monastrell vines grown in rocky limestone soils, and cropped at 1.8 tons of fruit per acre, it is amazing that a wine of this quality can be found at this price given the weak dollar. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by gorgeous aromas of sweet black cherries, flowers, and background oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, expansive, pure, and persistent, this terrific Spanish red should be consumed over the next 3-4 years."

Juan Gil is meant to retail for $18.50 per bottle. The Duke has it for you at just $15.99 per bottle. Buy 6 or more for just $14.99 per bottle.

The second is also from the Juan Gil winery in Jumilla, imported by Jorge Ordonez. Ordonez seems to have some kind of eerily accurate wine radar when it comes to finding wines that are tops in the quality-to-price category. Despite the silly name, Wrongo Dongo 2004 is a delicious wine meant to go with a wide variety of foods and occasions. In the mouth, there are ripe berry fruit flavors featuring blackberry, black cherry and vanilla oak lined with a touch of licorice. The texture is smooth and the palate is marked by solid acidity and sweet ripe tannins that lead to an attractive, balanced finish. Parker describes it as a " . . . solid effort [that] represents a good value. Produced from 100% Monastrell, it is a fruit-driven, easy-going red to consume during its first year or so of life."

The Duke is offering this one at just $7.50 per bottle. Buy a case and save even more - $6.99 per bottle, or mix a case of Juan Gil and Wrongo Dongo and get the Wrongo Dongo for $6.99 per bottle!
