Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
We recently sent the following invitation to members of The Wine Association. Perhaps you'd like to join us, too.HOT AUGUST NIGHT 2005! Featuring DIAMOND CREEK --- CHATEAU MONTELENA --- SILVER OAK TWOMEY --- KEN BROWN --- CURRAN --- GOLDWe most cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, August 25, 2005, as we present a totally HOT combination of exciting wines and guests from seven sensational wineries. DIAMOND CREEK VINEYARDS, founded over 30 years ago by long-time friends Al & Boots Brounstein, has created some of Napa Valley's finest Cabernet Sauvignons. Their gorgeous estate in Calistoga is famous for its diverse soils and micro-climates where they have developed the descriptive vineyards of Gravelly Meadow, Red Rock Terrace and Volcanic Hill. We are delighted that the lovely BOOTS BROUNSTEIN and her affable son, PHIL ROSS, will join us to help preview their eagerly anticipated 2003 Cabernet Sauvignons, which we will be offering on "future." CHATEAU MONTELENA, located at the northern end of the Napa Valley in Calistoga, without a doubt is one of California's finest wineries producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays and Zinfandels. They first earned their reputation when their 1973 Chardonnay won the famed "1976 Paris Tasting" and they continue to merit the highest praise. We are pleased to welcome their charming Southern California Regional Manager, TRACI LAWRENCE, to guide us through a tasting of three of their hotly appreciated wines. SILVER OAK is located in the Oakville area of Napa Valley and in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma County. Known for over 30 years for producing outstanding and highly coveted Cabernet Sauvignons, Silver Oak's two gems have been dubbed "America's wines." We happily welcome back our friend SUSAN CANNON, their lovely and knowledgeable Southern California Sales Director, to present Silver Oak's hot new 2001 Alexander Valley release. TWOMEY, located in the Calistoga area of Napa Valley on the former Stonegate property, is owned by the Duncan Family, who also owns Silver Oak. Their featured wine is an extraordinary Merlot from a single Napa Valley vineyard, the Soda Canyon Ranch. We are pleased to present a preview of their impressive 2002 vintage this evening, which definitely resembles a top-notch Pomerol from France. SUSAN CANNON also represents Twomey and can fill us in on the complete Twomey story. KEN BROWN WINES is the newest venture of Santa Barbara County pioneer KEN BROWN, who, in the mid-1970s, was among the first vintners to realize the tremendous promise for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and to introduce the Syrah grape in this cool-climate appellation. Since then, Ken has produced excellent wines as the founding winemaker at Zaca Mesa and as co-owner of the Byron Vineyard. In 2003, Ken established Ken Brown Wines to focus on exceptional Pinot Noir and Syrah from leading vineyards in the Santa Barbara County. We are thrilled that Ken will be joining us this evening to present two of his hot new beauties. CURRAN may be one of the new kids on the block as wineries go, but founder KRIS CURRAN is no neophyte. Her early experiences at Sanford and Cambria prepared her for her current full-time position as the winemaker of Sea Smoke Cellars in the Santa Rita Hills. Focusing on sites, varietals, clones, soil types, barrel coopers, etc., Kris has produced world-class wines that are in huge demand everywhere - hot, hot, hot! We've known Kris for years and have watched her progress, so we are genuinely proud and pleased that she will be joining us to show two of the wines she has produced under her own Curran label. We know you'll love her winning personality, too. GOLD is the exciting new Australian wine from Hundred Acre proprietors Jayson Woodbridge and Chris Radomski. If you know Hundred Acre, the amazing Napa Valley gem that has achieved cult status for its extremely high quality, unique and classy packaging and rare availability, then you will understand why Gold's delicious white wine from Australia's Barossa Valley is certain to be equally alluring. What makes it spectacular is the existence of pure gold flakes floating in the fluid and, yes, they're edible! It's a special treat to be able to premiere this hot new wine! We hope that CHRIS RADOMSKI will be on hand to explain how it was created.
