Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

The Duke's staff is too "kewl" to lose it very often, but lose it we did this morning. We were offered samples of the long-awaited 2005 Gold and lost our composure completely. Even the most jaded of our palates insisted on a second and then a third sip.

Conceived of and brought to market by the team from Hundred Acre in association with Kiwi winemaker Helen Mawson, this beautiful white wine simply knocked our socks clear down around our ankles.

Chris Radomski, partner of Jayson Woodbridge in Hundred Acre, showed us this beautifully packaged gem. He was more than a bit coy about the blend. He admitted to there being some Chardonnay in the bottle, but was really close-mouthed on the other wines with it, especially those providing the incredible aromatics. The wine is made in Australia and shipped to the U.S. in temperature-controlled tanks for bottling. And, yes, you read the vintage correctly - it is indeed 2005. This wine was grapes just a few months ago due to the reversed seasons down under, but, oh, the transformation into wine!! The first thing to notice is the incredible aroma coming from the glass. Gold has seen no wood, batonage or malolactic. What you have is the clean, pure taste of an elegant white wine. The palate lived up to the nose with flavors of fresh fruit and crisp acidity. It is perfect for entertaining or with light summer dishes! If you know Hundred Acre, you know there is absolutely no compromise on the quality of the product.

Now for the topper. Each bottle has a small amount of gold flakes (999.9% pure and perfectly safe to consume) in the bottle. The explanation for this unusual touch is best taken from the label:

"In the ancient world, rulers of kingdoms long lost and some still part of current memory made wine and mined gold. Their armies fought to keep it and ranged over the earth to obtain it.

Legends stretched across the millennia, steeped in mystery and religion. Tales of kings living for generations, ancient tribal leaders speaking of battles they fought hundreds of years before, the Holy Grail, Knights Templar, women wise and young, all of their non-believing friends old and gone forever. Their secret . . . was kept hidden by open display. Sprinkling gold into their freshest white wine they drank to their health, happiness and long lives . . .

This they did with a pure heart, over the very height of summer and in the depths of winter needing to believe that summer would come again. Summer is a time of legend, so let us embrace the golden sun that makes this wine, warms our bodies and hearts . . .
. "

Gold is in very limited distribution nationally, but the Duke has a good supply of this sensational wine. (Although the supply may become short if the staff is allowed to get its hands on it.) You can get your share of this precious metal, . . . er, wine, for $22.50 per bottle. Take advantage of our introductory offer and buy 6 or more for $19.99 per bottle, thereby saving some of your own gold.
