Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

Our fondest moments here at the Duke are when we find real treasures for you. Imagine our elation when we found these three elegant beauties!

Gypsy Canyon 2003 Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills

Here is one of the rarest of the rare. Only 23 cases of this inaugural vintage were produced by owner/winemaker Deborah Hall. The microclimate at Gypsy Canyon is exceptionally cool compared to other vineyard sites in the Santa Rita Hills area of California's Central Coast. This allows the berries to ripen with stable sugar levels and develop complex full-bodied fruit character, a true Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. We were privileged to taste this Pinot Noir here in the store and were totally impressed. Evidently, Deborah was equally impressed with us, as she asked us to be her exclusive Southern California retailer for this limited treasure for its first few vintages. We then visited Deborah's picturesque property, where we were so taken with her warmth, hospitality and surroundings that we knew we had discovered another gem.

The wine is soft and elegant with luscious fruit flavors and a long finish. It is truly deserving of the lengths to which Deborah went in developing the packaging. The bottle is hand-blown by Mexican artisans the way bottles were made before the advent of machine-made glass. The crest on the bottle also replicates the style of that time. The beeswax seal on the cork is made by the bees on the Gypsy Canyon estate. This is a wine made with the greatest attention to every detail.

The Duke has a limited supply available for you at $75.00 per bottle. In fact, we only have enough to offer 2 bottles per customer. Gypsy Canyon Pinot Noir is certain to become a Central Coast cult wine. Don't miss out on the first vintage!

Gypsy Canyon Ancient Vine Angelica

Pictured alongside the Pinot Noir is an even more rare wine made from Mission vines believed to be 100-125 years o ld. The vines were discovered after Deborah had purchased the property. She decided to honor history and produced an incredibly small amount of intense, yet delicate, sweet wine - Angelica. It is absolutely scrumptious! The Duke was lucky enough to have had a few bottles of this rare beauty. Unfortunately, we sold out. However, the next vintage (again, very limited) will be here in October! Upon release, the price will be $120.00 per 375 ml bottle. You can reserve your share today with just a 20% deposit.

J. Davies 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon

Many of you are familiar with the success the Jack Davies Family has had with Schramsberg, renowned the world over as the finest of Napa Valley sparkling wines. In fact, Jack and Jamie Davies were true pioneers when they produced one of California's first methode Champenoise sparkling wines in 1965. By 1990, they had realized that their Diamond Mountain property was best suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon, so they replanted their vineyards to that noble variety. (They now obtain the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes for their Schramsberg sparklers from other excellent sources.)

In 2001, winemaker Hugh Davies, son of Jack and Jamie, made an outstanding wine from the grapes grown there on Diamond Mountain and it was appropriately named J. Davies in honor of his father. The production was extremely limited and not widely distributed. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon has just been released (also quite limited) and is on its way to becoming a Napa Valley classic. Housed in special wooden 6-packs, the wine is complex, inviting and elegant, with delicious fruit flavors and the excellent tannins one would expect from grapes grown on a mountainside. While it is approachable now, it certainly has the power to improve with time in the cellar. We are pleased to report that it was a big hit at our recent Wine Association seminar.

You can obtain some of this second vintage by calling the Duke today! The list price is $65.00 per bottle. Our special introductory offer is $59.99 per bottle or, better yet, buy a 6-pack for $348.00 (only $58.00 per bottle). This special offer is good through June 30. Ask us about the availability and pricing of magnums and double magnums. We also have a few bottles of the inaugural 2001 vintage if you are inter ested in starting a vertical collection.

Don't miss out on these rare wines. Call the Duke today!!
