Judging from requests here at the Duke, the allure of Pinot Noir is invading all corners of the wine world. We thought it would be a great idea to offer some outstanding, older, properly-cellared Pinot Noirs to our customers.So we contacted our good friend Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat and Ici/La-Bas fame. He is one of the most celebrated winemakers in the world, especially when it comes to Pinot Noir. Au Bon Climat produces wine from the Central Coast, while Ici/La-Bas makes world-class wines from other areas. (Ici/La-Bas translates from French as "here and there.")We discussed our plan with Jim and he happily agreed to allow us to acquire some older vintages from his library of Ici/La-Bas Pinot Noirs. In some vintages, Jim made wine from both Oregon and California appellations and stayed true to the Burgundian style he has followed his entire career. The best news is that he made the wines available to us at very attractive prices, especially considering that these wines have been stored in ideal conditions at the winery all this time.
