The legend only grows with the release of Rudd 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate. As a wine retailer, the Duke is truly excited to be able to offer you a wine of this quality. Grown in rocky, volcanic soils on low-vigor rootstock, the vines provide the ultimate expression of the Oakville terroir. Rudd's vineyards are flanked by the renowned vineyards of Dalla Valle, Opus One, Harlan Estate, Screaming Eagle, Phelps Backus and Silver Oak. The wine has concentrated, fruit-forward aromatics with a deep, rich mid-palate and a well-integrated finish. Robert Parker had some high praise in addition to his award of 94-96 points: " . . . this 2002 was a real labor of love according to [Winemaker] Charles Thomas because so much of the harvested fruit had to be eliminated due to raisining caused by heat spikes. Thomas also said that producers willing to make the effort had the potential to produce great wines. This is a powerful, full-bodied, intensely rich Cabernet offering notes of espresso, fudge, cedar, spice box, blackberries, and black currants. A wine of great intensity, purity, and voluptuous richness, it should be accessible young, but last for 12-15 years. A brilliant effort!" The list price is $90.00.
