Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
Time flies like an arrow. (Fruit flies like great wine.) It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were announcing the release of the 1999 vintage and here we are announcing that Silver Oak 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa will be released this Saturday, January 29. Silver Oak is always a distinctive and memorable wine; ask anyone who has purchased one of the thousands of bottles that the Duke has sold! Silver Oak is well-known for being aged in American oak, as opposed to the French oak used for most fine Cabernet Sauvignons.
The 2000 vintage will be remembered for the harvest that wouldn't end. The beginning of the season was unremarkable, with mild weather and good crop-set. It turned remarkable in the middle of harvest with an unusually long, cool period that extended the harvest to what became the longest one in Silver Oak's history, lasting until late October. Both the grapes and the wine benefitted from the additional hang-time. Once you taste this wine, you will certainly agree.
Since the 1994 vintage, Silver Oak, Napa has been a blend of several Bordeaux varietals. Winemaker Dan Baron helped create the blend to differentiate it from the Alexander Valley wine that the winery produces. They strive to make a concentrated and profound wine that will remain true to the overall Silver Oak goal to be drinkable upon release.
This vintage achieves that goal and more! The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It is particularly distinguished by the Merlot from the Soda Canyon Ranch, home of the outstanding Twomey Merlot. It delivers a wine with a dark, ruby-red color and an exquisite nose of cassis, violets, roasting coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and cloves. The wine has a rich, balanced mouth feel dripping with ripe berries and chocolate. Medium tannins are well integrated into the long finish. Ready to drink right away, but will improve with proper cellaring.
You can order yours right now with delivery on or after January 29, 2005. Our regular bottle price is $99.50 per bottle . Through the month of February, buy six or more and we will make the bottle price $95.00. Curious about the differences between the Alexander and Napa versions of Silver Oak? Take advantage of our special mixed 6-pack of three of each for a special price of $450.00.
BTW - We have other vintages and sizes of Silver Oak available. Check out the following list:
