Mas de Aveylans 2003 Syrah is back in the store - this time in quantity! We had a tiny amount earlier, sold through it quickly and had to wait, like a kid for Christmas, until we received the next batch. It is now here and tasting great. This is a big, bold, delicious wine from a small estate located just west of the Rhone River in the Gard, between the cities of Nimes and Aries. The vines are more than 40 years old and produce wines of great concentration and depth. Listen to what Parker has to say: "This beautiful, dense purple-colored Syrah reveals classic blackberry and currant notes intermixed with notions of licorice as well as pepper. Medium to full-bodied and chewy, with nicely integrated acidity and tannin, Mas de Aveylans consistently turns out one of the worlds best value-priced Syrahs. The finish lasts at least 20 seconds, impressive for a wine of this price." He then assigned 90 points on his 100-point scale. The price is just as fabulous as the wine.
