Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

Baseball season has crept up on us almost unnoticed. We usually "pitch" the best of the best in our emails. Today we "change up" a little and are going to feature some value-priced wines. These are not wines coming from "left field," but outstanding wines produced by familiar names. Strap on your spikes and climb into the batter's box. The Duke's good, but it's unlikely he can get one of these by you.

Joseph Phelps 2002 Pastiche, White
This is a tasty blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat. Like its red cousin, it goes with many different foods, poultry and fish dishes, and is also yummy just to sip with snacks as you watch your favorite slugger knock one out of the park. The apricot and pineapple aromas develop into those flavors on the palate and into a long, lingering finish. And yes! The Duke has it for the low price of $7.99 per bottle or just $90.00 per case.

Joseph Phelps 2000 Pastiche, Red
This is Phelps' version of a Cotes du Rhone blend. A versatile wine, it has generous red, spicy fruit aromas and delicious berry flavors. It goes great with a wide variety of dishes, from pasta and pizza to barbequed steaks (or hot dogs if you're watching the game). The Duke's price is just $5.99 per bottle. Buy a case for only $60.00 and you have an ideal wine for everyday drinking.

Long Vineyards Red Wine (NV)
Bob Long is well known as a producer of high-end Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, not to mention Italian varietals. He also makes a really succulent red wine that is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from three different vintages - this release features 1999, 2000 and 2001. The wine has great fruit on the palate and a delicious finish. This is one of those wines that had the Duke staff "stealing second" sips when we tasted it. The Duke's price is $13.99 per bottle, but you can get a 6-pack for $81.00.

Take a swing at any one of these pitches; you are sure to get a hit!

Don't delay! Gems like these sell quickly.
