Here is what some others have to say about Chateau Montelena and the 2002 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon:

Robert M. Parker, Jr., of The Wine Advocate: ". . . 'a serious, balls-to-the-walls wine.' Extremely full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with high tannin, it is a chewy, perhaps less delineated, and jammier effort reflecting the style of the 2002 North Coast Cabernets. Yields were a meager 1.7 tons of fruit per acre, and the final blend includes 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc. By Montelena's standards, the 14.3% alcohol is relatively lofty. It should be more approachable in its youth than the more obviously tannic and structured 2001. While the tannin is more noticeable, the fruit is riper, and the wine is more of a heavyweight, although the 2001 has significant size. The 2002's anticipated maturity is 2007-2027. " (92-95 Points)

Kiplinger's Personal Financial Magazine opines: "We're suggesting that you use a futures contract to purchase a case of one of America's best Cabernet Sauvignons for 25% less than it will fetch upon its release. The wine in question is Chateau Montelena, one of Napa Valley's most consistent wineries of such exceptional quality that its popularity makes it hard to find on the shelves at any price."
