Cheers from the Duke of Bourbon!

A couple of weeks ago, we sent an email listing an incorrect phone number for Jenny Williamson Doré. Well, Jenny and husband Dick Doré, who are co-owners of Foxen Winery along with Bill and Becky Wathen, were in the store a few days later to showcase their newly released 2000 Foothills Reserve. We tasted this incredible wine and, believe us, no wrong number this time! The Duke's staff scored it a WOW (What-a-wine ' 95+).

The wine is a limited production blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the same as the famed Cheval Blanc, inspiration for this great effort. The inaugural vintage of 1999 was met with an overwhelming reception and Foxen decided to make it an integral part of the Foxen family of fine wines. Most of the fruit comes from the exciting new Santa Ynez viticultural area called Happy Canyon, with the balance from Carhartt Vineyard located on a hillside in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley.

Notes from Bill Wathen, Winemaker: 'This wine displays aromas and flavors of bright red currant, licorice, cherry, vanilla, chocolaty earth and exotic spice. The soft and plush merlot meets the firm structure and tannin of the cabernet franc. There is a long lingering aftertaste.'
