Their style was defined in 1972 under the leadership of Jim Barrett - fruit, first and foremost, balanced by an underlying structure of natural acidity to provide both drinkability and ageability. Those precepts continue today.

Chateau Montelena 2000 Chardonnay is full-bodied with bright fruit flavors, great balance and a long, juicy finish. The wine is not allowed to go through malolactic fermentation and very little stirring of the lees is done. Oak is used judiciously and comes through on the palate as a nuance and not as the primary flavor component. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve the fruit character and flavor. The wine is crisp and clean on the palate, long in the mouth and full of vibrant flavors. Really really delicious!
