Diamond Creek's 2001 Release

Cheers from the Duke of Bourbon!

The excitement at the Duke is palpable as we prepare to tell you about Al and Boots Brounstein's Diamond Creek Vineyards and the highly anticipated release of their 2001 vintage. Diamond Creek was the first of the 'cult' wineries ' justifiably so because of their dedication to the principle of producing the finest Cabernet Sauvignons. Unique soils and microclimates as well as stringent farming practices and canopy management contribute to the outstanding quality of the wines. Diamond Creek only picks grapes at optimum maturity and sometimes makes as many as 20 passes through the vines during harvest. Strict attention to detail is the foundation for the incredible success of Diamond Creek.

Diamond Creek has three primary vineyards: Volcanic Hill, Red Rock Terrace and Gravelly Meadow.

Volcanic Hill, the largest and warmest of the three, has gray soil with the consistency of volcanic ash ' thanks to the eruption of Mt. Konocti some 8 million years ago (before the Duke opened, but just barely). The wines from this vineyard seem to be the longest-lived of the Diamond Creek wines. Winemaker Phil Steinschriber describes them as 'full bodied, loaded with intense ripe berry fruit, cassis, violets and a smoky richness, finishing with good length and firm tannins.'

Red Rock Terrace faces the winery and features red-tinted soil that is high in iron content. RRT produces the most accessible of Diamond Creek's wines with great balance, velvety tannins and beautiful flavors of cherry, mint and black currant.

Gravelly Meadow is the smallest and coolest of the three vineyards. It was originally a prehistoric riverbed. The soil drains quickly, causing the vines to struggle for moisture, which results in low yields and highly concentrated wine. Earthy, jammy, cedary are descriptors often heard when talking about Gravelly Meadow bottlings.

The message we are beginning to hear from winemakers in the Napa Valley is that the 2001 vintage is bordering on sensational. Diamond Creek always produces a very limited quantity of wine and the 2001 vintage is no exception. Sensational vintage and limited quantity will make some wines very hard to obtain. We are offering Diamond Creek 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon in 6-packs with 2 bottles from each of the vineyards. The normal suggested winery price of the 6-pack is $1,050.00 ($175.00 per bottle.) We are offering it to you at a special, pre-sell price of just $840.00 per 6-pack ' a discount of 20% - with delivery scheduled for late next month.

Don't miss out on a chance to purchase one of the premier wines in the world.

Call the Duke without delay.
