1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Calistoga Cuvee

This Bordeaux-style blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. The grape sources are in the Calistoga area with some of the grapes coming from the Estate itself. The wine is soft and round on the palate with a warm, spicy berry flavor. The texture is very supple, but the wine still has the backbone to age well.

2000 Napa Valley Chardonnay

Winemaker Bo Barrett thinks this is the best juice ever for their Chardonnay. They have worked diligently to make their great Chardonnay even better in the true Montelena style. That means no malo-lactic fermentation, little yeast stirring, judicious use of oak, purity of fruit flavors and fine balance. The aromas that emanate from the glass are of fruit, lychee, citrus, pear and apple. The wine is full-bodied with bright fruit, refreshing balance and a long juicy finish.

2000 Zinfandel, Estate

Given the cool nights of the Montelena Estate, this Zinfandel shows a classic red wine balance of fruit, tannin and alcohol. A dark ruby red, it demonstrates good extraction by the "legs' on the glass. The aroma is complex, raspberry, bramble and that great Montelena earthiness. The palate has juicy red fruit, spice and berry flavors. It is just plain smooth, a perfect Zinfandel.
