Christian Moueix Merlot is the personal cuvée of the dynamic, charismatic figure whose name it bears. Christian Moueix (the owner of Château Pétrus) has brought the complete expression of the Merlot grape a step nearer perfection in this wine, selected and blended to show the ripe, rich fruit, seductive fragrance and elegant balance of the Bordelaise interpretation of the variety.

The Joseph Phelps 1999 Pastiche Rouge is their version of a Côte du Rhône blend, which combines generous red, spicy fruit aromas with a soft, lingering finish of ripe berry flavors. It is a delightful blend of 39% Grenache, 23% Mourvèdre, 11% Merlot, 11% Syrah, 9% Zinfandel, 5% Pinot Noir and 2% Alicante Bouschet. Sure to seduce the most discriminating palate, this wine is a perfect choice for stews, spicy-styled dishes and barbecues.

This wine, reminiscent of a Cote-du-Rhone, is an outstanding blend of 47% Mouvedre, 28% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 4% Merlot and 4% Alicante Bouschet. It is similar to the excellent Pastiche that Phelps produces. The wine was aged 12 months in French and American oak barrels, with 50% of the blend held an additional 6 months in large oak ovals before bottling.

Winemaker Craig Williams' notes regarding this wine: "This medium-bodied wine displays spicy, strawberry aromas and berry-like flavors, with a smooth, balanced finish. It is a perfect choice for barbecues, stew and spicy, Mediterranean-style meals."
