Dinner with the Wines of Castello di Gabbiano...
At

Special Guest: Proprietor Raynelle Arcaini

Dear Wine Associates:

We are delighted to invite you to join us on Wednesday, July 2, 1999, for a delectable "DINNER WITH THE WINES OF CASTELL0 DI GABBIANO ... at POSTO" with our very special guest, proprietor RAYNELLE ARCAINI. We are particularly pleased to host this dinner with Raynelle, since we recently returned from a wonderful visit to her gorgeous estate in Tuscany.

Castello di Gabbiano sits on the edge of a hill in the midst of a rich, green countryside. It is a beautiful castle rich in history and romance dating back to the 12th century. First in the possession of the famous Bardi family, this strong castle noted for its position atop the hill and solid construction, undoubtedly assisted the family in maintaining prominence, if not dominance, in the region for centuries. In the 15th century, the castle passed into the hands of the patrician Soderini family whose history is an intricate part of the Political framework of Florence. In the 16th century, fate turned against the Soderini family as they chose to fight the illustrious Medici family and lost. Declared rebels, they were forced to flee Italy and the castle was left abandoned and fell into ruin. The famous cavaliere now appearing on the Gabbiano label is a depiction of those warring times.

Today, the stunning patchwork of vineyards and olive groves creates a remarkable setting for recounting the history behind one of Tuscany's most charming and fabled castles. Gabbiano's current proprietors, Raynelle and Rino Arcaini, purchased the estate in 1981 and have gone to unprecedented extremes not only to restore the Castello and its grounds to the glory it once possessed, but to improve upon the serious dedication to viticulture found there during the centuries. Modern vinification and technical methods ensure that every man-made measure is taken to produce the finest wine possible. We can attest to this, as our visit included an extensive tour of the state-of-the-an winemaking facilities as well as a delicious luncheon featuring their absolutely superb Tuscan wines.

Our dinner this evening has been created by the chefs of Posto to complement these most intriguing wines, which include Gabbiano's excellent Chianti Classico Riserva (produced primarily from the Sangiovese grape), their stunnixig Merlot, and their dynamic proprietary wine Per Ania (produced from 100% Sangiovese-Grosso, the Brunello clone). To maintain an atmosphere of intimacy, this event will be held in Posto's lovely Wine Cellar Garden Room and will be limited to 60 people. We encourage you to make your reservations promptly.
