A Symphony of Wine

Dear Wine Associates:

As supporters of the New West Symphony, David & Judy Breitstein and the Duke of Bourbon would like to invite you to participate in the lovely and exciting "A Symphony of Wine" Dinner and Auction to be held in the Thousand Oaks area on Sunday, September 22 2002. As you will see from the enclosed invitation, descriptive letter and list of auction lots, it promises to be a most exceptional and memorable afternoon and evening.

Fellow Wine Association members Tom & Lisa Miller are hosting this event at their beautiful hilltop estate in Hidden Valley. Our good friend Frank Ostini of the Hitching Post Restaurant and Winery will be honored as "Maestro of Wine & Food." The Children's Programs of the New West Symphony based in Ventura County (conducted by Maestro Boris Brott and considered to be the Number One Regional Symphony in America) will be the beneficiaries of the proceeds.

Fabulous dinner wines, including Joseph Phelps Insignia, Far Niente Chardonnay, Hitching Post Pinot Noir and Roederer Estate Champagne ....outstanding cuisine prepared on the spot by the talented chefs of six well-known restaurants ....an exciting auction conducted by famed auctioneer David Reynolds ....a lovely setting and a group of extremely convivial people ....live music to enhance the atmosphere ....numerous reasons for you to want to be part of this special day. And, of course, David & Judy will be in attendance and will make sure all of our Wine Association members feel right at home.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call David at the Duke of Bourbon (818-341-1234). As an active consultant for "A Symphony of Wine," he will be able to discuss the details with you.

We hope you will join us!

Dear Lovers of Fine Wine, Great Food, Exciting Travel Adventures and Gracious Living:

The New West Symphony's 2001 Symphony of Wine dinner and wine auction was a great success last year with over $100,000 raised at auction and 90% of that going to benefit the Symphony's children's music programs throughout Ventura County. Unfortunately, due to the size of our venue last year, we were limited to just over 100 attendees and sold out quickly. As we believe that our auction items this year (please see the attached "hot list") are even better than the excellent array that we provided last year, we have decided to expand the event to include 150 attendees, thereby reaching a broader audience of people that we know who love food, wine and exemplary causes. This year's event has been set for Sunday afternoon, September 22nd. Please read on to find out why you should be eager to attend.

Everything about this year's event should be even more spectacular than last. Our auction items are incredible, including an extremely rare bottle of 1848 Chateau Lafite (before the Rothschild family's ownership), six bottles of the exceptional 1947 Chateau Lafleur (scored a perfect 100 by all ratings sources - considered one of the best wines of the entire 20th Century), a vertical of 1980-1989 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild along with a fabulous dinner at Sherwood C.C., a horizontal of great 1985 California Cabernet Sauvignons, ten Bordeaux "first growths" spread out from 1970 to 1990, an Imperial of '96 Joseph Phelps Insignia, a Salmanazar of '95 Sanford Pinot Noir, dinner for ten at Toscano with ten great Italian wines, a weekend at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, a fabulous barge cruise for a week in Europe, season tickets to the New West Symphony, high seas sailing, more opulent wine and food dinners at great restaurants, winery tours and tastings, romantic weekend getaways themed around wine and dozens of other wine or wine related items. And if you aren't the winning bidder of any of our 54 live auction offerings, there will also be a silent auction of a couple dozen terrific wine or wine-lifestyle items that we're sure you'll find both desirable and affordable.

You are being invited because we feel that you love wine, food, travel and gracious living. We also would like you to understand how the New West Symphony has improved the cultural aspects of the region and especially what their programs do to improve the appreciation of the arts and music amongst children, most of them of economic means who would have no chance of such exposure otherwise. Without financial aid and support, such programs would be impossible. But rather than just asking for cash contributions, we thought it would be great to give all of our supporters of this event something wonderful in return. The offerings available at this wine-centric auction are as good as you will find at any such auction in America. But since this is a private regional event and not a nationally known and celebrated one, you'll be able to purchase these items at reasonable prices and still benefit our orchestra and its programs. Even better, with the limited list of quality live auction items (a quarter of those offered at several other highly renowned California wine events), you'll be able to enjoy a lovely few hours of late-afternoon, early-evening dining and bidding rather than have to endure an entire day of such activity.

Please review the attached summary of auction items available. And, just as last year, there will be great food courses supplied by some of the best restaurants from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara and great wine from some of the best wineries in California for you to enjoy throughout the auction. Check your calendars and let us know as quickly as possible of your desire to participate. Again, this event will be limited to only 150 attendees and we'd love to have you as part of this elite group with access to these unique wine, food and lifestyle offerings. Don't miss out. See you in September!

If you want to be assured of "a place at the table" and a bidding paddle, please call Diana Malmquist, our Event Coordinator, at 818-889-6169 or e-mail her at DiMalmquist@msn.com to reserve your spot.

Thanks for your attention, interest and support,
