Dear Wine Associates,

We are delighted to invite you to join us on Wednesday, June 28, 2000, as we present the exciting Southern California Premiere of Napa Valley's newest super-premium winery, NICKEL & NICKEL. To complement their own distinctive world-class wines, Far Niente partners Gil Nickel, Dirk Hampson and Larry Maguire have created Nickel & Nickel with the idea of specializing in only single-vineyard wines, each with a distinctive character associated with its unique location. Their winery will be built on a 40-acre site across from Robert Mondavi Winery, just north of Opus One.

Our "DINNER WITH THE WINES OF NICKEL & NICKEL...at POSTO" will feature a delectable menu designed by Posto proprietor Piero Selvaggio and four intriguing Nickel & Nickel vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignons from the 1997 vintage. Each one is extremely limited and we are honored to be among the few select wines shops to offer these exciting wines.

The John C. Sullenger Vineyard is located in Oakville and will be the site of the future Nickel & Nickel winery. The wine is harmonious and plush with forward fruit flavors of plum and cherry, toasty oak and elegant tannins. The Rock Cairn Vineyard, also in Oakville, lies at the western base of the Yountville hill. The age-worthy wine is richly structured and powerful with aromas of cherry, anise and herb and an underlying dusty earthiness. The Carpenter Vineyard is located just east of the city of Napa at the base of the Vaca Mountain range in the Coombsville area. A tight core of fruit with fleshy tannins is the signature of this vineyard. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is bold and impressive and strikingly resembles hillside fruit, although the vineyard is fairly flat. The Stelling Vineyard is located behind Far Niente at the base of the western hills in Oakville. The wine is a classic study in elegance, structure and complexity and consistently reflects the nature of the location with flavors of blackberry, cassis and a slight dusty note.

Our special guest this evening will be charming Nickel & Nickel partner LARRY MAGUIRE. Those of you who attended our dinner with Larry and the wines of Far Niente last year will remember our sneak preview of the Nickel & Nickel Merlot and Zinfandel, which are just being released. We are delighted to have Larry return to help us launch the Cabernet Sauvignons of Nickel & Nickel. We will also serve two excellent Far Niente Chardonnays and their lovely Dolce late-harvest dessert wine, which has been favorably compared to the famed Chateau d'Yquem.

The cost for this "Dinner with the Wines of Nickel & Nickel" is $87.00 each for the member and the first guest, all inclusive; additional guest and non-member reservations are $97.00 each. Full payment must accompany your reservation. No tickets are issued; you will be notified if your reservation cannot be accepted. Cancellation deadline for full refund is June 26.
